Stay Focused Girl

I have been pretty successful with keeping my mind off of the upcoming holidays- I knew the moment I let myself think about them I'd lose ALL focus. Well ladies and gents- it has happened. Thanksgiving break starts just too soon to NOT think about it. I'M SO EXCITED!! Excited for family, football, food, friends- Anything else that starts with an f?

We're almost completely done with Christmas shopping too, which is SO good for us. I always am too busy with school and wait til the last minute- which is always super super stressful. So I'd like to think we're ahead of the game this year!

Now I've just got to study for a killer pharmacology test before I can completely let my mind go. Good luck to me- the holidays cannot come soon enough!!

Heard this quote while we were watching a movie a few weeks ago and kept meaning to write it down. I really love it because it shows how we have to work for the characteristics or attributes we wish to have.

Look at these eyes...

I've been working on a presentation for class on cleft lip and cleft palate. After looking at picture after picture for literally hours Saturday night, I have such a deep desire to participate in organizations such as Operation Smile to help these little ones.

Seriously- look at these eyes...

How could you not want to help after seeing precious little ones like this girl?

I'm so grateful that I am pursuing a career that will enable me to go on such adventures. Aside from a pretty pay check, dental hygiene will open doors for me to be able to go help the underserved around the world. I've always wanted to do something like that- but after working on this presentation I seriously can't stop thinking about it!

The other day a 17 year old girl came to the clinic for me to clean her teeth. She was so darling. Sadly enough, it was her first time being to the dentist in her entire life. I couldn't believe it! For whatever reasons (lack of money, lack of education, or just flat out not a priority) this girl had never had her teeth cleaned. After completing her assessment, it was decided that she needed to be seen by a more experienced 2nd year. It broke my heart because I just wanted to help her right then and there! I wanted to clean her teeth so her gums could heal and stop bleeding just from brushing her teeth. I wanted to help her feel more confident!

Experiences like that just light the fire inside me that wants to go help wherever I can! Whether overseas in a foreign land or right here in Provo, Utah- there is so much that can be done! Dental Hygiene school has been the hardest thing I've ever done in my entire life- honestly. Nothing else compares to the stress it brings, and nobody can quite understand it until they are in it. Before starting the program all I heard about was how challenging it is- but I didn't get it until I started- and holy moly, I've never been so challenged in my entire life! But once again I'm so happy knowing what my education at UCDH is preparing me to do and the doors that it will open for me and my family to go serve.

Halloween

Hope everyone had a HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

We were busy saving the world- you know- doing what superheros do.

No but really- after a halloween party picture us running late to Bridger's intramural game- running across the football fields with capes blowing in the wind, getting triple or quadruple takes from everyone. It was quite the sight I'm sure.

Our Fall So Far

Quite a lot has been going on in the Booras family lately. First of all, about two weeks ago our apartment flooded, which is always fun. Luckily Dallan was at our apartment so he was able to move all the stuff that would've been ruined. Though it wasn't that bad, we ended up moving apartments. Turns out our apartment was the handicapped apartment, and we're not technically handicapped :) So we switched, and it turned out to be much more of a process than I thought. Where the heck did we accumulate so much STUFF?

In the middle of the process of moving, we ended up going to NYC for Stephen's funeral. We really loved Stephen- he was really a kind, warm person and meant a lot to so many. The service was amazing, with all 3 musical numbers sung by people from Broadway. Talk about some talent! The weekend in NYC was short (and by short I mean we were literally only there for 36 hours), but I'd like to think we packed in a lot considering the short trip. It was Bridger's first time there, and we left with great hopes of returning in the next couple years. We love the city and I can't wait to show Bridger more of it!

I came back from NYC to a newly painted apartment. My friends Zaundra and Erin were LIFE SAVERS and little did I know they had made plans with Bridger to have our new apartment painted and all our big stuff moved. Seriously? Where did I get such good friends? I was so so surprised- and so grateful for their huge help! It saved me a night of painting that is for sure! A night we didn't really have. Love them! The next weekend we went to Boise for a little break. My parents were here in Utah, so we were able to spend a lot of time with Bridger's family, McKay, and my friends Ashley and Jessica. My parents returned on Sunday so we did spend half the day with them. As I said in my last post, the fall time always makes me homesick, so I really loved our time there!

Now we're all moved in to our new apartment and back into the swing of things. School is just as crazy as ever. Some days are good, some days are frustrating. Today was one of those good days :) I got home early from school, my 3 tests for the week are done, I took a nap, made some salmon for dinner, and get to just RELAX and watch my shows tonight. Below are just a few of the pictures of our latest happenings. I had to include some pictures of when I went home in September for Caitlin's homecoming. My friends have dang cute kids! Kinda makes me envious :) And no, I'm not pregnant, even if my skirt in the NYC pictures make me look like it :)
